Maendeleo Youth Center, an initiative of the Brothers of Charity since June 1997, began by assisting refugee youths from neighboring countries. Over time, local youth from Kigoma also became part of the center, which now works tirelessly to address the various challenges faced by youth while welcoming older individuals struggling in society.
The Emmanuel Community in Kigoma, under the stewardship of the Brothers of Charity, is a vibrant and compassionate faith-based community dedicated to holistic care, spiritual nourishment, and social support. Rooted in Christian values and the charism of charity, the community serves as a sanctuary for the vulnerable while fostering a spirit of unity, joy, and spiritual growth.
At the heart of the Emmanuel Community are six Brothers of Charity. The community also includes youth and elderly who receive basic care to improve their lives:
The Emmanuel Community is more than a shelter—it is a living witness to the Gospel call to love and serve the least among us. Through daily acts of kindness, the Brothers and community members embody the spirit of Emmanuel—"God with us"—bringing hope, healing, and dignity to those in need.
